Beard scored both a win and runner-up in the same day, Saturday of
Labor Day weekend, 2011, winning the rain-postponed Rockingham Pro-Am
Final and making it to the finals in Race #1 of the Darlington Pro-Am
double-header. It marked his first win in Super Stock with the new
fuel-injected
5.9L DragPak engine combination.
Beard reunited with Terry Knott and his H/CM Dart Sport for a Stock
victory
at the 2011 IHRA Northern Nitro Jam in Martin, Michigan
After winning the IHRA Tournament of Champions and the IHRA Spring Nitro
Jam
back to back at Rockingham, Beard made it four in a row by doubling up
at Montgomery Motorsports Park's Summit Pro-Am double-header.
Each year, Farmington Dragway hosts a special Champions Showdown, open
to
everyone that's ever won a Footbrake championship, from the local stage
to
Nat'l/Div'l titles, Bracket Finals, or Summit Super Series. In the
2nd Annual event,
Michael Beard won the Champions Showdown... with his 4-cyl FWD '85
Turismo!
Beard won the 2010 Summit All Stars race in a Dodge Avenger borrowed
from the Ross family (the same folks he bought the Volare from) after
breaking a rear during qualifying at the IHRA World Finals.
In March of 2010, Beard footbraked his way through 8 rounds of Box cars
to win the $3K Big Money Brackets at Rockingham Dragway.
For the 2nd straight year, Beard won the
first IHRA Nitro Jam race that he attended,
(this one, at Palm Beach International Raceway in Florida), thus
qualifying once
again for the IHRA Tournament of Champions to be held at the World
Finals.
Beard won his second Bracket Finals title by winning 3
out of 4 days at Darlington
in 2009. This was his first IHRA Bracket Finals main event
victory, complementing
his 1994 NHRA Div. 1 Heavy ET Championship.
Beard won Stock Eliminator at the 2009 IHRA Spring Nationals to qualify
for
the season-ending Tournament of Championships at the World Finals.
In 2007,
Beard's 360 Magnum-powered '80 Volare set the 1/4-mile J/CM
World Record, captured three Iron Man trophies, and finished 2nd
in the IHRA Stock World Championship chase.
Beard borrowed Johnny Fisher's '80 Dodge Mirada, and
won Super Stock in his first
outing in the car. The natural J/SA car fits SS/LA, and despite
being in legal "Stock"
trim, ran -.30 under the Super Stock index.
